a design hotel in the historical zone of the city of évora, overlooking the city’s ancient walls and the água de prata aqueduct, a 16th century monument that stretches from graça do divor to the city and still supplies the city’s drinking fountains to this day
évora is a museum-city – classified by unesco as world heritage – and has a magnificent historical city centre and famous monuments including the roman temple, the d. Manuel palace and, from more modern times, the Garcia de Resende theatre and the pretty square called praça do giraldo with its fountain and arches
besides the pleasure of wandering the streets and admiring the façades with their manueline windows, a visit to évora also means discovering the cuisine of the alentejo region. whether you choose the simplest, most down-to-earth eatery or opt for one of the more sophisticated restaurants with their enviable wine cellars, the spirit of the region will always be present…
the hotel is the result of the recuperation of an ancient 16th century palace located at the gates of the old city and which belonged to the Sepúlveda family
some parts of the old building have been conserved: the chapel, the domed ceilings and the main façade’s manueline windows
the project also included a new wing built in the style of the original building and set around a large garden and swimming pool
the atmosphere is one of design with a welcome, and the hotel’s proximity to the aqueduct and the city walls make its surroundings very special indeed
at night, the terrace is the place to be… chill-out music, candles aplenty and the city walls bathed in light
the spa offers some rather unusual treatments such as the vichy massage or the Indian head massage
as you stroll along one of évora’s prettiest streets, you pass the Garcia de Resende theatre and some of the city’s top eating spots before arriving at the delightful giraldo square
the perfect starting point from which to explore the city
